I found it completely unacceptable that I didn’t know how to make gyros, so I sat down and plowed through half a dozen recipes, cobbling together one I thought sounded good. And I nailed it. I honestly can’t really tell the difference between these and ones you get from a stand in Chicago. Eat them with tzatziki sauce and sliced onions on pita bread
Ingredients
1 pound lean ground beef
1 pound ground lamb
1 medium onion, finely diced
6-8 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon dried rosemary
2 eggs
salt
pepper
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350.
Basically, make a meatloaf out of this. Put everything in a large bowl and knead it together until well mixed. Transfer the mixture to a loaf pan and bake for about an hour, until it temps at 165. Drain off the grease (or not, I’m not your mom), let the meat cool, and slice thinly.
When you’re ready to eat, crisp up the meat slices in a hot pan before serving.
That’s really it.
